Fundamentals of Educational Technology Leadership

This course introduces doctoral cohort candidates to the program's mission of preparing effective leaders for an independent world.

EDTC 802 ​Principles of Educational Technology Leadership
This course focuses on concepts and strategies necessary for a leader in a technologically rich learning environment. Topics include strategic planning, leadership styles, institutional change processes, and policy issues in educational technology. 

  • Leadership Group Project - A group assignment that involved working with Stephanie Peborde Burke to learn about, and explain transformational leadership.

EDTC 804 Global Issues in Educational Technology Leadership​
This course investigates educational technology through a global perspective. The issues covered will include development strategies, diversity, cultural values, and the systematic role educational technology plays in global economic development.
  • Environmental Scan - Identify and map themes from education-related news stories. 
  • ADHD Literature Review - This literature review is designed to provide the reader with a global comparative overview of ADHD research, prevalence, diagnosis, and treatment.
  • Remix Course Proposal - A group project working with Hayet Bensetti-Benbader and Leah Shull to create a college-level course proposal. 
EDTC 813 Using Integrated Software Across the Curriculum
This course focuses on technology and learning environments. Topics will include accessible curriculum design, project-based instruction, student use of technology, educator use of technology, and organizational learning.
  • Teacher Evaluation in a Blended Learning Environment - A group project with Kerry Magro and Susan Marie Terra using the Danielson rubric to evaluate a teacher in a blended learning environment. 
  • Science Exhibit Proposal - Newton's Punching Bag - Design and learning project that involved designing a science exhibit proposal for the Liberty Science Center. 
  • Bers Design Principles - A group project with Kerry Magro and Susan Marie Terra in which we used a district technology plan to create a guide for applying Bers' technological design principles. 
  • Applying Lessons of the Fifth Discipline - This assignment had students create a Pecha Kucha presentation applying the concepts of a learning organization to the work of Horn and Staker (2014).
EDTC 815 Advanced Administration & Supervision of Technology in Educational Settings
This course prepares students to serve as professionals who promote the development and implementations of technology infrastructure, procedures, policies, plans, and budgets for schools and organizations at an advanced level.
  • Planned Growth Program - An administration and supervision group project created in collaboration with Christopher Farrell, Stephanie Peborde Burke, and Susan Marie Terra.  
  • Hiring Three Technology Coordinators - A group project created in collaboration with Steven Lahullier, Kerry Magro, and Rachael Sedeyn to research and compare technology coordinator qualifications and responsibilities. 
  • Implementing Blended and Adaptive Learning Programs - A group project created in collaboration with Michael Bermudez, Anna Boscarino, Stephanie Peborde Burke, and Yalitza Vega-Bajana to research and design a technology implementation plan for a blended and adaptive learning program.

EDTC 812 Teaching in the Adult Learning Environment
This course emphasizes teaching adult learners in post-secondary learning environments including the workplace and corporate settings.​

This course focuses on the exploration and evaluation of advanced and emergent technologies and the means by which educational and training leaders learn about them and sustain them in a learning environment.
  • White Paper - Stem Internships for Inner City Students - A white paper presenting a solution to a problem. 
  • Wearable Technologies Group Presentation Video - An emerging technologies group project working with Michael Bermudez and Rachael Sedeyn presenting an overview of wearable technologies. 
  • Technology Theme Park - A web based physics learning experience called Newton's World of Physics. 
EDTC 807 Implementation and Evaluation of Curriculum
​This course provides candidates with a comprehensive understanding of the landscape of implementation and evaluation of educational technology programs.
  • Curriculum Struggles - Historical Roots - A paper providing an overview of the curriculum struggles in the late 19th and early 20th centuries based on the Kliebard reading. 
  • Curriculum and Technology Group Presentation - An educational technology in context group project collaborating with Kerry Magro, Veronica O'Neill, and Stephanie Peborde Burke to describe 20 uses of technology in formal educational settings using the SAMR model. 
  • Informal Learning with Educational Apps - A paper examining the history, theory, and context of a trend in informal learning. 
  • Curriculum Proposal - Robots for Autism Spectrum Disorder - A group project collaborating with Richard Cottone and Kerry Magro to develop a proposal to implement a technology-related curriculum in an educational setting. 
EDTC 814 Advanced Effective Models of E-Learning
This course focuses on concepts and strategies necessary to step into a leadership role in the integration and application of technology and learning.
  • Everest Simulation Case Study - A group activity working with Ronnie O'Neill, Yalitza Vega-Bajana, Steven Lahullier, and Leah Shull to engage in the Harvard Business Mount Everest Expedition simulation. 
  • Higher Education Case Study - A needs analysis based upon two case studies. 
  • Leadership Vision and E-Learning Plan - This paper presents a vision of e-learning, technology plan, and funding proposal. 
EDTC 816 Advanced Building Online Communities
This course provides a background in theory and practice surrounding online interactive environments. It is concerned with the practical issues of design and use of online tools to support communities. 
  • Online Community Search - Description of two online communities and a reflection of what elements constitute a community. 
  • Community Analysis - A group project working with Christopher Farrell, Kerry Magro, and Rachael Sedeyn to promote understanding of an organization through interviews of its members, review of the organization's data, and analysis of its members' interactions.

EDTC 817 Advanced Development and Managing Distance Learning Programs
In this course, students analyze the relevant issues impacting distance education and incorporate an understanding of the historical and current evolution of distance learning into a vision for the future. Students will explore industry best practices in planning, launching, maintaining, and coordinating distance education programs.

EDTC 809 Assessment and Evaluation
This course has candidates integrate their knowledge of research methods with real-world challenges of conducting and analyzing research in educational and corporate settings. 
  • Observational Exercise - Using field observation and note-taking to obtain qualitative research data. 
  • Qualitative Research Project - A qualitative study proposal using ADHD children's views and experiences to guide the development of a gamified app. 
  • Proposal of Field Research Study - Using the Instructional Materials Motivation Survey to measure motivation of registered users of a gamified reading comprehension app developed based on the ARCS Model of Motivational Design. 
  • Pilot Field Study with IRB - Using the IMMS to measure ADHD children's motivation in response to a gamified reading comprehension app developed based on the ARCS model. 
EDTC 810 Statistics for Educational Research
Candidates will develop competence in applying, synthesizing, and evaluating statistics from various sources including dissertation, journals, technical reports, and Web sites. 
  • P-value: Mozart Effect - Reading and Writing w/ Stats - This project involved finding examples of statistical inference in the media on education and demonstrate an understanding of how different writers use statistics to support their arguments. 
  • Statistics Concepts Website Group Project - Worked with Hayet Bensetti-Benbader, Steven Lahullier, and Krista Weltz to create a reference website about statistics.

EDTC 901 Dissertation I
Candidates develop and refine their hypothesis, research contemporary related literature, and explain in detail their research method and procedures, as well as design all necessary research, permission, and data collection instruments.​
EDTC 902 Dissertation II
Candidates conduct their research , process the data gathered, draw conclusions, and reflect upon their study.
